When Amy Fleming (Amber Marshall) was fifteen years old, she was involved in a car accident where her mother was killed. Since then, she has been doing everything she can to continue her heartland ranch, where she takes care of sick, ill-treated, disturbed or neglected horses. Fortunately, Amy inherited her mother’s ability as a horse whisperer.
However, it is not initially bestowed with the finances of the farm, so Amy’s older sister Lou (Michelle Morgan) is a very helpful businesswoman. She leaves behind her lucrative job in New York and can keep Heartland from ruin, which is rapidly gaining in popularity and attracts vacationers.
